Technology is such a wonder, isn’t it?
We enjoy the things we do today because of it and its advances. Technology’s reach is absolute, penetrating every industry imaginable. It is responsible for the creation of the biggest machines as well as the manipulation of the invisible like atoms and our DNA.
Ever wonder what life would be like if we didn’t progress tech-wise?
As cyclists, we imagine we won’t be enjoying the benefits and the exhilaration of riding a superlight, superfast bike. We will still be wondering if our snots would freeze from riding out during the winter or if cabs are better or worse at night if not for reflector lights and bike lights.
And we won’t especially know the joy of riding out on a beautiful and gorgeous day, when the sun is particularly high and bright without hurting our eyes.
Aren’t you glad cycling glasses were invented? We sure are!
Specifically, photochromic cycling glasses. What are photochromic glasses, you say? And why are we all raves about it?
Well, we have two reasons:
- Photochromic cycling sunglasses blocks 100% of the sun’s UV rays making it effective in reducing eye fatigue and damage prevention.
Just as sunscreen blocks out the UV rays of the sun to protect the skin, this is the best kind of cycling glasses to protect your eyes. It has been thought that over exposure of our eyes to ultraviolet rays may cause cataracts, retinal damage, and other eye-related problems.
A huge probability for outdoor cyclists, wouldn’t you agree?
How many times have you gone for a ride without your cycling sunglasses and find yourself squinting or getting teary eyed from the sun’s glare? Well, if you had these cycling glasses, then you wouldn’t suffer any from all that brightness. Not only do you protect your eyes, you keep them from getting fatigued.
- It saves you from bringing two separate glasses, and has you covered in changing weather. It reduces, if not eliminates, your need to wear prescription sunglasses.

What do we mean? How does it do that?
Photochromic glasses changes from dark to clear and back again depending on the conditions of your environment. The lenses darken when sunlight hits them. When you are outdoors they turn from clear to brown. When you go indoors, they turn from brown to clear.

How convenient is that? Quite, right? It adjusts itself for you which is pretty sweet. Unlike other things in our lives. Word?
You might be wondering if you can use them for driving since you also experience the sun’s glare behind the wheel. We did say it is one versatile pair, after all. Unfortunately, since the lenses of the glasses activate when hit by direct sunlight, it will fail to do so when you are behind the windshield.
But fret not. There are other sunglasses out there for driving and at the same time are awesome for cycling. These are called polarized sunglasses. But that is for another article. Keep checking in for it.
